SPIA’s August 2016 General Meeting and Picnic

Happy Summer to All,

This Saturday, August 13th is the second SPIA general meeting at
9:30 am under the tent at Little Beach. We will follow with our Ice
Bucket Challenge for ALS (approx. 10:45 am) and then the Annual
Picnic under the tent at 5:30 pm. Martin Traywick has generously
offered to donate $10 per participant in the challenge so we hope
to see many of you there! The general meeting itinerary is
summarized below.
Links for more information on these events are as follows:

9:30 am: General Meeting – click here for Minutes
10:45 am: Ice Bucket Challenge – click here to signup or donate
5:30 pm: SPIA Picnic – click here to sign up

Our neighbor, David Cowan, had been kind enough to donate two
of his photographs to us as a fund raiser (see them below). We
will have a silent auction at the picnic for the two photos. They are
beautiful scenes of Halls Creek and will go to the highest bidders.
All proceeds will go to SPIA, Inc. so bid early and often.
I need to correct myself on my letter in this spring’s SPIA
Newsletter. In that letter I stated there would be an election at the
upcoming meeting due to the fact that my term was coming to an
end. After re-reading the SPIA by-laws, I realized I had misread
them. I was elected to the Presidency in June of 2014 to serve a
four year term from August 2014 through August of 2018 so I
actually have two more years to go. Sorry for the confusion,
hopefully anyone that was planning on running didn’t spend too
much on their campaign!

Itinerary:
1) Opening comments and approval of minutes – Charlie
2) Discussion of Budget – Dan
3) Events – Marsha and Denise
4) Infrastructure – Mike
5) Security – Charlie
6) Osprey nest – Charlie
7) New business
If you know of anyone on your street that does not get email,
please pass along to them that these events are taking place this
weekend. We will also be posting a notice on the message board
and at the Post Office.

All the best,
Charlie Cormay

Summer 2015 was a Great One!

Hello all Seaside Park Cottagers,

Well another summer has come and gone, I hope you all enjoyed it as much as our family did.  I want to thank all the board members and volunteers who made this summer one of the best in a long time.  I especially want to thank Marsha and Denise for organizing all the great activities we had this summer.  The movie nights, book swaps, the neighborhood social at Eileen Moroski’s house and the neighborhood picnic were all huge successes.  It was also great to see so many volunteers at the Ice Bucket Challenge to aid those afflicted with ALS.  All these activities gave us the opportunity to get together with neighbors and friends to enjoy all that Seaside Park has to offer. I’m already looking forward to next summer.

Now that autumn is here, it is time to move all the dinghy’s and kayaks out of the boat basin and off the kayak racks, please do so by next weekend.  We plan to have another lottery in the spring for kayak rack use, the details will be in the spring newsletter. There are still some households that have not paid their dues, it’s never too late to chip in.

I hope you all enjoy the fall, I will see you around the Ave’s.

All the Best,Charlie Cormay

Great Work Happening! Join us for the SPIA Ice Bucket Challenge Fundraiser on August 15th at 11am at Little Beach following the general meeting!

ALS
Many of you have seen the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge phenomenon that swept social media last year.  Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.  The ALS community needs support for those afflicted with this devastating disease. Many know someone this disease has touched and SPIA’s own John Landsiedel is battling it now.
MAKE AN IMPACT
We have organized a SPIA Ice Bucket Challenge Fundraiser. The purpose of this event is to bring our neighborhood together to show our support to the Landsiedel family and to others affected by this disease by raising money for Compassionate Care ALS, a wonderful organization that provides educational and legal resources, and subsidy of living aids and assistance (to name a few) to ALS patients and families on Cape Cod.
SPIA Neighbors – Participate in SPIA’s Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS!
Click here to Register to participate. Once you have registered, please consider asking your friends and family to support your participation with a donation. The registration page will explain how you can ask your friends and family to sponsor with a donation.  We will video the challenge and post to SPIA’s Facebook  and the SPIA website for anyone to access and nominate others to keep the challenge going.
We look forward to participating together as a community to support this important cause.

Happy Spring to All (Finally):

The memories of frigid weather and giant snow banks are finally starting to fade; sunny weather is here and summer is right around the corner. It’s that time of the year again when we start thinking about “the Avenues” and dreaming about long, hot summer days on Cape Cod. I, for one, am ready. I’m looking forward to hauling the deck furniture out of the basement and doing some serious spring-cleaning over the next few weeks in preparation for Independence Day weekend. It can’t come soon enough! It’s winters like the one we just went through that make us appreciate how lucky we are that we get to spend our summers at Seaside Park.

I want to thank all the kayak and dinghy owners who moved their boats out of the beach area this fall. All of the boats were moved in a timely fashion and we all appreciate that. We will be doing a beach clean-up and reinstalling the two additional posts that the ConCom approved last fall. Hopefully that will allow us to spread the boats out a little. According to my count, we peaked at 86 boats tied up there last summer. Don’t forget to register any new boats that you plan to store at the beach this year. (The 2015 Boat Storage Form is included.) We are also in the process of designing and building the kayak racks that were approved last fall and hope to have those in before summer starts. Mark has included an update on those and all the infrastructure and maintenance items in this newsletter (see page 8).

In addition to the kayak racks, we are working on some new ideas for the summer of 2015 as well. Denise and Marsha, coming off the great success of last year’s 4th of July Parade, are working on some other neighborhood outings, such as the possibility of kids’ movie nights at Little Beach and neighborhood socials for everyone.

So, here’s to another summer of fun in the sun on “the Aves!” (And, by the way, this is our family’s 25th summer at Seaside Park.)

I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at the General Meeting on June 27th, under the tent at Little Beach.

All the best,

Charlie Cormay, President, SPIA
